Entering the main gate of Gyeonggijeon, there are lots of tall ginkgo and zelkova trees standing shoulder to shoulder to the sky, and in the middle of them Hongsalmun attracts our attention shining brightly in the sunlight. Its red color seems to symbolize the authority of the royal household. Though Gyeonggijeon is not very magnificent, the roofs made of antique tiles on the top of the buildings go well with the time-honored old trees.
The sound of the wind blowing through the woods as tranquil as it is in an old palace sounds mysterious, while the melodious outpourings of birds flying above the sky keep listeners spellbound. Thanks to this exclusive atmosphere and classical beauty of the place, Gyeonggijeon has been used as the location of weighty period dramas or films such as Tears of the Dragon, King and His Queen, Empress Myeongseong, etc. |
